I chose GoogleWave because it was a manageable topic; useful to both my professional life, as well as something I’ve had in the back burner for about a month and have not had the time to find out more about the site. I am an avid Gmail user, and look to expand my sense of the wide variety of online resources.
What are your goals for your Wiki about this technology?
My goals are to use the resources online to fully delve into GoogleWave, to wave others in order to begin to use the system. To figure out how to incorporate the technology into my job and to explore the pros and cons of relying on an emerging technology in an office that is currently rolling out Office 2007, and so is quite structured in their tech use and permissions. Also to format the Wiki in a way that will be self-explanatory and easy to navigate.
What do you hope for viewers of your Wiki to know and understand about this technology?
I hope my visitors learn something new about Google, their Wave technology, and about new ways to communicate with others in either a professional or personal setting. Also I will cover their beta testing, feedback to the creators, all of which are vital to formulating a useful system.
How does this Wiki relate to your profession now and your professional goals?
My office relies heavily on documents and sending them back and forth over email, which take a lot of time. This technology will eliminate the need to email the memos back and forth, and also eliminates the need to create many different versions of the same document and have people working off different versions. This technology will allow them to edit documents in real time, and also be able to interface with our Bristol Branch and draft memos, meeting agendas, or even update an absentee list live. It refers to my professional goals of learning something to both help the office I currently work at, and also to look towards the future where I will be able to use these technologies in a different fashion.
